Recipes and snapshots of life in Bristol Bay, AK

Well here it is, the owl hat in all it’s finished glory:

I thought while I was at it, I’d make some matching newborn booties. The original Chaussons Mignons pattern by Pruline can be found here, but I hate increasing or casting on while mid-project and so I worked these backwards from the original pattern. And I’m about as lazy and in need of instant gratification as they come, so I made these on US size 10 (6mm) needles with the same Bulky Aran yarn as the owl hat and so the number of stitches for the sole was also reduced.

Here is my version:

Chaussons Mignons a la Lazy Knitter’s Pair

Cast on 26 stitches, using the long tail cast on.

Knit 10 rows.

Bind off 10, knit remaining 16 stitches to end of row

Bind off 10, knit remaining 6 stitches

Knit 12 rows

Cast Off.

Now it’s time to sew it up, here is a screen shot of Pruline’s sewing instructions, taken from the original pattern:

Sew A to A’s, B to B’s and C to C’s.

I recommend you sew inside out to make bootie more rounded.

Now repeat directions for second bootie and finishing by sewing opposite side on top to make pair (see photo).

So sweet!
